Obituary

SERGEANT BLUFF | Thomas Anthony Stahle Jr., 56, of Des Moines, formerly of Sergeant Bluff, passed away suddenly Friday, March 7, 2014, at home, of natural causes.

Commemoration will begin at 1:00 PM, Sat. March 15th, at the Murray Conference Center, Living History Farms, 12234 Douglas Parkway, Urbandale IA, 50323. Brothers Scott and Bob will be conducting, followed by refreshments and sharing, on site. Arrangements are with Celebrate Life Iowa of West Des Moines.

Tom was born April 29, 1957, in Sioux City. In 1975, he graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School, where his father taught and coached for more than 30 years. With one sister and three brothers, all close in age, there were fun times to be had. Despite that, Tom took his studies seriously and was a Morningside College graduate of 1979. Tom graduated with honors and belonged to various honor societies as a result of his academic performance.

Tom married Tammy Bishop shortly out of high school. They were blessed with two daughters, Lindsey and Ashley, for whom he maintained a special place in his heart.

He later married Tammy Rudolph, and to that union came a third blessing, Juliana. From coaching her softball team as a little girl to watching her run track and cross-country as she grew older, they cherished their time together. Whether shopping, going out to eat or just hanging out at home playing with the cat, they were content with each other's company.

Tom was an accountant with several prominent companies in Topeka, Kan., and Minneapolis. With his love and desire to be near the Iowa Hawkeyes, his home became Des Moines. In his most recent accounting position with Marriott Hotels, he enjoyed assignments allowing him to see the country.

He was an avid fan of sports, and as a participant was pretty good at most of them. He loved music, especially Pink Floyd. Tom was a gentle person by nature and somewhat quiet. With his sense of humor and concern for others, he was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his sister, Amy (Greg) Sanford of Blue Springs, Mo.; two brothers, Scott (Suzanne) of Sioux City, and Bob (Sarah) of South Sioux City; many nieces and nephews; uncle, Wayne Voelz of Phoenix; and an aunt, Veronica Evans of Iowa City, Iowa; many cousins; close friends from Whitehouse, and F and G Group; special friend, Bruce Dunn; self-sacrificing friend, Tina Champagne, and many other giving professionals who played an important role in Tom's recent years; and Jamen Cox, who showed Tom much love and support during the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Jeanne Stahle; older brother, Tim; and nephew, Andy.
