Obituary

Today, we sadly announce the passing of the late Daryl Eugene Brooks, better known as Boo to all that loved him. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Hendersons Funeral Home, 3500 6th Ave, in Des Moines from 1:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m. Immediately following his visitation his funeral will begin at 3:00 p.m.

He was born on April 17th, 1957, and spent much of his childhood and teenage years alongside his mother and family in New York.

At the turn of his 18th birthday, Boo decided to enlist into the US military. After his service tenure, he decided to uproot and make Iowa his home.

Like many of us in some form, throughout his life, Boo battled an addiction. One that seemed to keep winning despite any changes he made. Feeling defeated, Boo never decided to give up.

In recent months, Boo's life had taken a positive turn. He had enrolled in an online college and was doing well in his classes. Additionally, he secured a full-time position at Hy-Vee, embracing every opportunity that came his way. With his head held high, Boo carried on despite the challenges going on around him.

In his final days, he emerged victorious, proudly claiming over 100 days of sobriety; and for that we all couldn't be more proud.

As a friend, Boo was unparalleled. His loyalty knew no bounds, and his understanding transcended words. He was the person we could always count on, the one who made us realize that we were never alone.

He possessed a unique ability to make all those around him feel seen, loved, and valued. His infectious personality charmed everyone he met and his smile would always brighten any room he walked into. I would agree that we were all lucky to have had him as a part of our lives- but, even more to have experienced his relentless unchanging love.

Boo had an innate ability to forge deep connections, binding everyone of us together that loved him. Boo showed us the power of chosen family, the bond that goes beyond blood and genetic ties. He was the glue that brought us together, making us feel like we belonged, like we were loved unconditionally, and like we were truly seen for who we were.

Though Boo may no longer be here physically, his spirit will forever live within each one of us. The lessons he taught us and the love that he gave us we will keep deep inside our hearts.

To our beloved Boo- our lives have been forever changed for having known you. You will never be forgotten.
