Obituary
Michael Patrick Mallaney
December 17,1949-January 29, 2025
Michael Patrick Mallaney, 75, of West Des Moines, Iowa passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, at Morningstar Assisted Living due to complications from Parkinson's.
Born in Manteno, Illinois, on December 17, 1949, he was the son of Joseph and Jacqulyn Mallaney.
Michael attended Eastern Illinois University where he studied history and earned a bachelor's and master's Degree. After years of teaching, Michael attended and graduated from Drake Law School with honors and was a member of the Drake Law Review as well as a bankruptcy law clerk for Judge Richard F. Stageman. Michael led a distinguished career in law, where his sharp mind and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike. Michael was one of the founders of the law firm Hudson, Mallaney and Shindler PC (now known as Shindler, Anderson, Goplerud and Weese, PC). Mike was a preeminent bankruptcy attorney in Iowa. But beyond his professional life, he was a man of great humor, always known for his quick wit and ability to bring a smile to everyone around him.
He had a deep love for his family, particularly his children, Casey Mallaney and Keegan Mallaney. His pride in them was evident, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
A man of interests, Michael was an avid racquetball player and enjoyed staying active in ways that brought challenge and joy. He also found great enjoyment in spending time with his sister, Jodi Odland (Mike) and Mia Blanchette (Rick), and his brother, Patrick Mallaney (Julie).
Michaels passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, humor, and kindness will live on.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jacqulyn Mallaney. He is survived by his children, siblings, and many beloved family members and friends.
"May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sunshine warm upon your face, rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may god hold you in the palm of his hand."
In lieu of flowers may be sent to: Shindler, Anderson, Gopler & Weese P.C.
