Obituary
Craig Leroy Overton, 66, of Lake Rathbun, Iowa, passed away on Friday March 7, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinic in Iowa City. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at 5050 Doanes Pard Road in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.
Craig was born on January 31, 1959, in Des Moines, Iowa to Lonny and Judy (Ulm) Overton. He grew up in Des Moines where he attended and graduated from Tech High School. While in high school, he met the love of his life Kris Cory. The couple married, lived in Des Moines where they started their family together. Craig worked as a self-employed carpenter for over 30 years before retiring in 2019. In retirement, he moved to Lake Rathbun.
Craig loved to spend time with his family. His greatest accomplishment was being "Papa". Craig also was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Those left to cherish his loving memory are his children Katie (Joe) Timmerman of Des Moines, Karaline (Chris) Velasco of Urbandale, and Kristin Overton of Johnston; grandchildren Kyli and Peighton Timmerman, and Alexia and Sebastian Velasco; and sister Terri (Kevin) White of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 25 years Kris Overton.
