Obituary
Charlotte Bird, age 95, passed away on April 3, 2024, in Johnston, Iowa
She was born in Fillmore, Missouri to Floyd and Ruby Burns. After graduating from William Jewell College with a B.S. in Biology, she married Hiley Ward and had four daughters. She was a homemaker and later a cardiology office administrator. When she and James Bird married she became a loving mother to his daughter and two boys. They enjoyed many activities together during their devoted 47 year marriage including volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, church mission work, sailing, and sunsets. She loved using her cooking, sewing and crafting skills for all her family. Throughout her life she helped sponsor immigrants and taught her children to accept and love all people.
In addition to her husband, Charlotte is survived by and will be forever missed by her children, Dianne Ward (James Mulholland), Marcy (Greg)Valenty, Laurel (Jim) Boures, Suzi (Tim) Galarde, Stephen Bird, and David Bird; Grandchildren Mary, Jay, Jenna, Dean, Christopher, Anna, Aly, Adam, Ashton, A.J., Grace, and Riley; five great-grandchildren; nephew Duane Farmer, and nieces Jeanice McDonald, Patricia Sanders, Frances Daniel, Eleanor Cobb, Elizabeth Daniel, and their families.
She was preceded in death by daughter Carolee (Robert) Sommers; her parents; and siblings Valda (Herbert) Farmer and Keith Burns. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center for their loving care. A Celebration of Life and internment in Fillmore Cemetery will be held at a later date.
