Obituary
Carrol L. Michael (Slick) 84, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024. Service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Slater Iowa on April 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
Carrol was born to Arthur and Ingrid Michael of Slater, Iowa. He was the third child of eight children. After graduating from Slater High School, Carrol married the love of his life Charlene Crabtree. I remember him saying, he knew the minute he met her she would be his wife. Charlene wasn't so sure but he won her heart. And they went on to have 62 years together. To this union, two children, Randall and Christine. They lost Randy in a car accident in 1981. It was an unimaginable tragedy for any parent. They were blessed with two grandchildren Kurt and Brent Jones whom they loved very much.
In 1972, his dream of buying a farm became a reality and together they worked hard raising a variety of livestock. Carrol was always finding different ways to provide for his family. Honestly, Charlene never knew what livestock he'd bring home for her to raise.
For years he was a Slater volunteer fireman and managed the grain elevator for Larson Lumber. After it closed he continued to work in the farming business at Heartland Cooperative. Carrol and Charlene enjoyed vacationing in Nevada where they spent time with family and may have gambled a little. Together they built a full life around family and farming.
He is survived by his daughter, Christine (Steve Schonhorst); 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter-in-law, Kurt (Canaa) Jones, and Brent Jones; two great-grandchildren, Gage & Riley Jones.
He was proceeded in death by his son, Randy Michael and his wife, Charlene Michael.
