Obituary

Amylia (Amy) Yeaman Bergholz of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 21st , 2023 of natural causes. Amylia struggled with lifelong complications associated with juvenile Type I diabetes.

Amylia was born on May 20th , 1977 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the 'first born' daughter to Peggy L. Miller and Richard J. Bergholz. Eleven minutes after her birth, Amylia would be joined by her identical 'mirror-image' twin sister and best-friend in life, Rachel J. Bergholz. At a very young age, Amylia developed a lifelong love for traveling the world. This passion for travel
developed at Green Bay East High School when she won multiple scholarships that allowed her to become a German foreign exchange student. Amylia became fluent in German and continued her education at the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities where she graduated with a degree in English and a minor in German. Amlyia wrote a book of her own original poems for her master's degree. Her career combined her passions for travel, writing and teaching. Amylia began her career by working for CIEE, Council on International Educational Exchange, working for the same agency that allowed her the opportunity to become a foreign exchange student. Amylia also taught English overseas. Upon her return to the states, Amylia was hired by MPS (Milwaukee Public Schools) and was an English teacher at Vincent High School. Amylia was a life-long learner, who became a published writer under the 'pen name' Amylia Grace. She was fond of poetry, music and the arts. Her background as a writer allowed her to become employed as a diabetic medical journalist where she chronicled her firsthand perspective of growing up with juvenile,
Type I, diabetes. Relatable and insightful, Amylia had an innate writing ability that brought her a following of readers that were empathetic to her distinctive, self-reflective style.

In 2013, Amylia's life was forever changed when she and Chuck Yeaman of Iowa City, Iowa, welcomed her firstborn and only child, Piper Joy Yeaman to the world. Piper created immense happiness for Amy, Chuck, and her family and friends, that continues to this day. Amylia spent the remainder of her life in Iowa City as a loving mother to her daughter. Please provide your thoughts and prayers to Piper, as she was Amylia's purpose in life.

She is survived by her daughter, Piper Joy Yeaman, her parents, Mother, Peggy L. Miller of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Father, Richard J. Bergholz of Waukesha, Wisconsin, (ex) Chuck Yeaman of Iowa City, Iowa, Sister, Rachel Joy Bergholz of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and younger brother, Andrew (Megan) Bergholz, of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Godmother to Maxwell R. Gagliano of Auburn, Alabama and a friend to many.

A 'celebration of life' will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for her close friends and family at a later date.
