Obituary
Anthony B. Fairlie, having trusted Christ as his Lord and Savior, stepped into the arms of God on Monday, January 24, 2022. Throughout his four-year battle with cancer, Anthony's desire was that others see God's grace and strength at work. He often reiterated that cancer had been a blessing in his life, as it had drawn him into a fuller, more meaningful walk with Christ. That part of his journey came to an end at his home in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by family, at the age of 61.
Anthony was born in Fort Madison, Iowa on August 25, 1960 to Austin and Mary Lou (Pohlpeter) Fairlie. Raised in Swisher, he graduated from Prairie High School with the class of 1978, going on to attended Northeast Missouri State where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Religion. Having come to understand his hopelessness apart from Christ's sacrifice on his behalf, Anthony became active in various Christian student/athlete groups, which eventually led to his 8-year involvement with Campus Crusade for Christ. After holding various jobs, Anthony became an operator at ADM in Cedar Rapids. He met Elizabeth Aarhus at a Christian singles group and they were married July 31, 1993. Anthony and Elizabeth raised their four children to be involved alongside them in every aspect of ministry at Northbrook Baptist Church. Any free time was enjoyed in the company of his treasured family.
Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife Elizabeth Fairlie; children Caleb (Kylian Ellyn) Fairlie, Hannah Fairlie, Esther Fairlie, and Isaac Fairlie; siblings Andy (Christina) Fairlie, Stefanie (Rocky) Cihla, Emma (John) Pulver, Audrey (Art) Johnson, and Tim (Crystal) Fairlie; many nieces and nephews; and close friends. Anthony was preceded in death by his parents and sister LuRie Fairlie.
Anthony desire was to know Christ and to make Him known. "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in lieu of flowers.
