Obituary
Alan Manning Fredregill, 73, passed away at home Saturday, February 19th, with his wife and daughter right by his side.
Alan, of the east side of Des Moines, was born on April 8, 1948 to the late Russell J and Mary Jean Fredregill Jr. He attended Tech High School where he met his loving wife of 51 long, amazing years, Leslie. Then, in Fredregill family tradition, Alan began his journey as a bricklayer and was with the BAC Local 3 for over 50 years. He was very proud of getting that gold card.
Also known as Bigfoot, Trampy, Grampy, and Peekin, Al had such a big bright, larger than life personality. He was stubborn but caring, so ornery with his inappropriate jokes and wooden cell phone, his full belly laughter was contagious. He was extremely knowledgeable and enjoyed all things cars. He was a member of several car clubs, including the Central Iowa Model A Club for over 50 years. Al enjoyed helping others with cars, dirt track racing and having the traditional dry hot dog at every racetrack, watching sports, Indian artifacts and rock hunting. He was always learning, reading history and mechanical books, and endlessly working on the house and in his shop. Al accomplished so much and had so many things to be proud of. Above all else, the love for his family was immeasurable. He was loving and present every single day and at every event. Most of all he loved playing with his favorite people so very much, his grandchildren.
Alan is survived by his wife Leslie, daughter Patsy (Travis), grandchildren Jacob, Maxx, and Elise, brother Fred (Susan), and many family members and lifelong friends.
A memorial open house will be held Saturday, February 26th from 1030am-130pm at Luther Memorial Church. 1201 Grandview Ave, Des Moines, IA 50316. Lunch will be provided. Please bring stories to share!
