Obituary
Cliel Lyddon, age 82 of Norwalk died peacefully on February 20th while being cared for at The Village in Indianola, Iowa. Per his wishes he wanted cremated with no services. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Cliel was born on November 17, 1941, to his parents, Carmon and Bertha Hull Lyddon in Dexter, Iowa. He was the first of five children. His parents divorced; when his father remarried, they had two more children. Cliel grew up on the family farm where he developed a robust work ethic. He had fond memories of his grandfather as a mentor and teacher. Although farming was the priority, he worked tirelessly to complete schoolwork. He graduated from Menlo Community School in 1960.
Cliel met his wife, Marilyn Waltz at a roller-skating rink in Stuart. They were married on August 22, 1964. In their 59.5 years of marriage, they raised three children, Doug, Patrick, and Beth, and numerous pets. In addition to working hard to raise a family, Cliel enjoyed simple pleasures, was quiet and unassuming until a memory would pop up and he'd say, "You'll like this story..." and proceed to share all of the details. He encouraged his children to work hard even if the only exchange was a kind word and a smile.
Cliel will be remembered by his wife, Marilyn, his daughter-in-law, Wendy Lyddon (Earlham), his son Patrick (Des Moines), his daughter Beth & son-in-law, Mitch Damm (West Des Moines) several grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as
his brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Cliel was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Viola Lyddon; brother Carmon "Ike" Lyddon; grandson, Christopher Lyddon; son, Doug Lyddon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Central Iowa in Memory of Cliel.
